At Cup Karts North America, we are privileged to have some of the greatest karters in the country as apart of our roster. This includes new names like Wishard, Warren, Bernloehr, Scott, Bolen, Demaster and Lanyi just to name a few; but also some of the biggest names from 4-cycle lore. When racing against drivers like Cassity, Kleman, Welsh, Kilsdonk, Lund, Lipari and Zimmermann; it means that when you manage to find yourself on the top step, you earned it.
Well hold on to your hats, because we have just confirmed that a another one of the greats will be added to the list of drivers that are strapping on the helmet for Grand Nationals II
CKNA, meet Gary Lawson!
Lawson’s record speaks for it self. He is a multi-time Gold Cup Champion and
holds the record for the most wins at the famed Rock Island Grand Prix with enough rocks to make a small retaining wall (that’s 25 of them btw). Lawson made the decision so many of us have made, and hung up the helmet in 2013 to take care of his growing family. Gary has never truly left karting though, as he moved to Indiana and joined Comet Kart Sales to become their in house driver coach and tuner. This summer, Lawson made his triumphant return to the big stage at the USAC Battle at the Brickyard, scoring wins in both the Sr. Medium and Heavy 206 Classes. This also earned him eKarting’s “Driver of the Month” honors for July of 2018.
For Grand Nationals II, Lawson will be competing in the CKT Senior CIK class piloting the same Comet Eagle chassis that Comet Kart supplies sells to their customers. So for those of you that never got your chance to see how you stacked up against one of the best drivers ever in the sport, here is your chance.
Lawson won’t be alone either. Representing Comet’s Eagle chassis will be a handful of customers including Multi Time Champion AJ Roderick!
This may be the ultimate Home Track Hero Callout yet. We called Gary out, and he has stepped up to our challenge.
