Effective immediately, CKNA will be starting implementing a new Penalty Points System.
CKNA runs a lot of races each year. That also means that we have different sets of officials that work each event. One of the downsides to that is that it can be very difficult to track a drivers penalty history and ensure that somebody whom is consistently finding their name up in lights on the penalty board may not get the additional consequences that we believe a habitual offender should receive.
We are committed to doing everything in our power to provide our customers a safe and fair racing environment every time they attend one of our events. Thanks to the hard work of our staff and software partners, we have been able to develop a system which will allow us to better do just that.
Similar to the FIA’s Super License penalty points, drivers will now accrue penalty points that they must carry with them throughout all CKNA events. Once too many penalty points are accrued, additional consequences including disqualifications and suspensions will be issued.
Here is the language that has been added to the supplemental rules for the first event that will be running under the new Penalty Points structure, Summer Nationals 2025:
In addition to any position or time penalties assessed during a race, penalty points will be assigned based on the offense. These points are assigned to the driver, regardless of which class they were competing in at the time of the offense. Furthermore, these points apply to all CKNA events, regardless of whether it is a Divisional event, or a National.
After a driver reaches 15 penalty points, they will automatically be excluded from the next scored session they are scheduled to compete in (Qualifying, Heat or Feature) within the next 380 days.
- If a driver earns 25 penalty points they will be disqualified for the remainder of the event at which they reached that threshold, and will also be suspended for the next National race on the CKNA calendar and receive a 20 position penalty at the next Grand Nationals if the suspension would not take place at Grands.
- Penalty points will stay with a driver for 5 events or 380 days, whichever comes first. For example, if you were assigned penalty points for avoidable contact at an event, you would carry those points for the next 5 events. On the sixth event you entered, those points would fall off (or after the penalty was 380 days old).
- Once a driver reaches the 25 point level and is disqualified from the event, their oldest 15 penalty points will be forgiven. They still must sit out the next scheduled National Event and will carry the remaining 10 penalty points until they expire as described above.
- The points value for penalties are as follows:
- Avoidable Contact: 4pts
- Blocking: 3pts
- Bump Drafting during qualifying: 0pts
- Failure to leave room to race: 3pts
- Impeding another driver: 2pts
- Incident Responsibility: 3pts
- Jump start: 1pts
- Missing or Incorrect Kart Number: 1pts
- Lost Equipment (Camera, Wheel): 4pts
- Lost Equipment (Weight): 6pts
- Passing under yellow: 2pts
- Retaliation: 10pts
- Underweight: 0pts
- Swerving: 3pts
- Leaving the track to gain an advantage: 3pts
- Tram Line Violations: 0pts
- Unsafe re-entry to track: 4pts
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct (On or off the track): 15pts
If CKNA determines that the point values above need to be adjusted in the future, it will not be adjusted retroactively. It will only affect penalty points assigned from that point forward.
So any time a driver receives a penalty, they receive a SMS notification of the penalty. Included at the bottom of that SMS will also be their current CKNA Penalty Points total. Drivers will also be able to log into their RaceSelect account and view their individual penalty history.
Very soon, we will also be adding a CKNA Penalty Board to the website, where anybody can view all CKNA’s penalty information. People will be able to see the total list of penalties called in any specific race, or the current penalty history of any CKNA driver. We want to make this as transparent as possible, so everybody knows when a penalty is called and how it was handled.
As we develop this system further, there may be some changes as well as more functionality we are looking to add. Regardless of those changes, CKNA is committed to making this new system as robust as possible to better serve our racers.
