CKNA Rules 26.0 have been released

We are pleased to present you the official 2026 CKNA Rule book! Those of you that follow us on Social Media will know that there was a fair amount of discussion regarding our intent to reduce class weights for this year. After listening to the feedback from our racers, we have amended our previous plan to one that we feel still accommodates the majority of our racers while still addressing some of the concerns we looked to accomplish this year. Thank you to everybody that provided feedback and helped us find a solution. It’s amazing to have customers that are willing to discuss their ideas and concerns in a positive way! The other major change is that all CKNA events

2026 Rules are coming, here’s a sneak peek:

Every year CKNA refines it procedures and rules to best suit the needs of our racers, and this year is no exception. The official book will be published to CupKarts.com in the next few days after we finish up some final tweaks. Of course, there are some minor adjustments to procedures and policies. For example, we’ve added some language to better explain who will be considered for an age waiver, clarified some penalties and adjusted the review procedures to expedite the process. But today we want to focus on two key changes we believe most of our racers will be excited about. Tires: For the first time, all Divisions of CKNA will adopt a “1 set per weekend” rule for

Statement from CKNA owner post GN9

Dear CKNA family, Thank you to everybody that attended Grand Nationals 9. Over 540 entries competed together on the same weekend, with the same engine. For most, it was an enjoyable weekend of racing with family and friends. However, I know that some left the track with a bad experience, and I feel it necessary to write an open letter to everybody regarding some of the controversy surrounding a few of the finishes at Grand Nationals 9. First and foremost, we fell short of the standard that CKNA has held for itself over the last 10+ years. The majority of the attendees had a great time racing against the best 4-cycle racers in North America and beyond. Our staff gave

Tire rules clarification for our Canadian competitors

Although this does apply to all competitors, it mostly effects our brothers and sisters from the North coming to race with us in the USA. VEGA tires with ANY additional branding on them from their importer/dealer (ONT, KK, etc..) are not permitted for use at Grand Nationals 9. This includes rain tires. The availability for extra rain tires will be very limited at the track, so if you need a set of tires that are legal for competition, we highly recommend that you pre-order them. If you already registered, please send an email to info@cupkarts.com and we will add a set to your order. You will be required to log back into race select to pay for them prior to

Penalty Points Update

As most of our racers know, a new Penalty points system was introduced at Summer Nationals 2025. And while the majority of our supporters welcomed the new system, some expressed concerns with specifics in the rules, and how points are being allocated. A handful of racers have reached out to the CKNA staff to express these concerns, offering additional ideas or tweaks to make the system work better. Thank you to all that took the time to reach out and have calm, reasoned discussions with us. In the majority of the feedback, there were two consistent themes: Updated Penalty Points System PDF Multiple class runners: Many comments we received said that we are unfairly holding drivers running multiple classes to

Summer Nationals After Action Report

Thank you to all that came to Summer Nats and supported the event. Our staff did an amazing job officiating the race and implementing the new penalty points system. While we will be making some tweaks to the entire process in the coming days, we believe we are heading in the right direction based on the feedback we’ve already received from competitors. As a part of our commitment to fostering a fair and family-friendly racing environment for all our competitors, CKNA will at times take additional steps after an event to ensure that these standards are upheld. We intentionally do this after an event, so all the officials involved have time to confer, ensuring we are as fair and consistent

New CKNA Penalty Points System

Effective immediately, CKNA will be starting implementing a new Penalty Points System. CKNA runs a lot of races each year. That also means that we have different sets of officials that work each event. One of the downsides to that is that it can be very difficult to track a drivers penalty history and ensure that somebody whom is consistently finding their name up in lights on the penalty board may not get the additional consequences that we believe a habitual offender should receive. We are committed to doing everything in our power to provide our customers a safe and fair racing environment every time they attend one of our events. Thanks to the hard work of our staff and

CKNA East Schedule Release

We really wanted to change things up a bit in the East for 2025. We are firm believers in rotating tracks through our schedule to keep things fresh as well as to support more facilities in the region. East this year will be featuring two new tracks to CKNA. Provisional Amendment to Kid Kart Rules

#219 Chain for Kid Karts Since it’s inception, Kid Karts have been required to run #35 size chain with a specified 17 tooth driver and a 57 tooth gear. Eliminating the gearing from the equation allows the parents and drivers to focus on the basics of driving and we believe it is the best thing for drivers so early in their racing careers. A few weeks ago, it was brought to our attention that there are some newer chassis on the market that the 57T #35 rear sprocket will not clear the crossbar on the chassis. Unfortunately, the way this was discovered was that families getting into the sport had bought them not knowing of the fitment issue. As the

East Division Finale: OVRP

The third and last event for the East series is next weekend, at Tim Hannen’s Oakland Valley Raceway Park (OVRP). Here’s a quick recap of the East series’ 2024 season so far. The first stop at United Karting was CKNA’s first race on a parking lot racetrack, located at the Baltimore Washington International Airport.  This was an exciting challenge for karters who had never raced on a parking lot circuit before. On top of that, it rained on both race days elevating the level of skill needed to handle this new venue. The next race was at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) where the competitors got “Liberated”.  As it always does, NJMP’s Liberator track provided excellent racing and close competition.

Important rules updates leading up to Grand Nationals 7

Grand National 7 will arguably be the largest 4-cycle race in many years. To ensure the most equal playing field possible, CKNA has decided to roll out two rule changes that had been planned for the 2024 season ahead of this momentous event! Walbro carburetors: When it was first born, Walbro was the carburetor provider for all 206 engines. Some time around 2018, Briggs & Stratton changed the included carb to one that was manufactured by them. The decision was made to allow the older Walbro pieces in the rulebook. This was done so not to force competitors to have to buy and replace a carburetor they had just recently gotten with an engine package. Fast forward to 2023, and

Tech Updates: BODYWORK

As we come closer to the Grand Nationals… we will be posting some tech updates and bulletins to try and make sure everybody is compliant with rules as they are written in our rule books. Our first installment: CIK Bodywork for all classes: This is a simple reminder that the “Gold Cup Style” bodywork has now been retired from competition in CKNA events. We set the date for this over a year ago so it should come as no surprise to any of our competitors. Grand Nationals 5 will be CKNA’s first race with only CIK bodywork in all classes. CIK Drivers Fairings: K.G. USA has recently began distributing their new 507 drivers panel. As of now that panel is

Letter regarding Bushnell disqualification

There has been lengthy discussions popping up in multiple places online regarding a disqualification that took place at round 4 of the Cup Karts South series at Bushnell Motorsports Park. While we usually do not comment publicly on any decisions made in tech, this incident in particular has seemed to cause a lot of confusion and misinformation about CKNA, Cup Karts South and the rules that we’re enforced. The infraction causing disqualification was a foreign object being placed in the fuel line between the pump and carburetor with the obvious purpose of altering fuel delivery. While not specifically called out in either the Briggs & Stratton book or our own rules, this was deemed illegal because of the following reasons:

Here’s some of the updates to the Grand Nationals Program for 2021

As the Grand Nationals continues to break records each year, we are continuing to identify ways of making the event bigger and better as well as raise the level of competition. Here are some of the changes for 2021: Thursday Practice: While we are still ironing out the event schedule to accommodate the 400+ racers we are anticipating, one thing is clear… we need to allow more time for practice! Thursday September 30th will now be an optional practice day available to all competitors. Friday Qualifying returns: Last year was the first time that CKNA held any scored sessions on a Friday. It was a huge success, so we plan to once again hold Qualifying on Friday. If you are

CKNA Rules update: v21.1 has been published

From time to time, we feel it necessary to update or clarify our rules to better serve our racers. After completing 4 events so far in 2021, a few minor tweaks have been made. Although we highly recommend you download yourself a fresh copy of v21.1, there is really nothing major changed. Here are the highlights, along with brief explanations of why we felt this was necessary: Practice grid starting positions may be determined by race officials: At our last event at CHMS, we saw competitors lining up nearly 30 min early for practice. Now there’s nothing “wrong” with that, but we just don;t like the idea of people feeling that it is necessary. Therefor, classes that we feel it

Whiteland Format

We’re very excited to bring Cup Karts North to the United States’ longest running kart track, Whiteland Raceway Park. Even though the majority of our racers have been in the sport far fewer years the Whiteland has been available, there’s no denying that many of them see the allure of bringing our series for a visit to this historic track. Racing at Whiteland does present a few challenges that we have not faced over the past few years at other facilities we have frequented. We’re terribly sorry that 2018 updates have been slow to come out, but the time has come to step on the gas and get 2018 off and running! First off, some regrettable news. We would like to thank the other tracks scheduled to host the series, who have gone above and beyond with offers to step up with additional dates and support trying to make the series happen. 206 Cup is Now Cup Karts of North America

Last season, our series saw incredible racing and record setting fields. Many new friendships were made along the way. By every account, we consider 2017 a resounding success. We want to again say thank you to all our sponsors, staff, and of course our racers. As any organization grows, it will undoubtedly experience growing pains along the way. Our series is no different. Shortly after the Grand Championships, we received a letter from Briggs & Stratton’s attorneys stating that there was growing concern regarding the use of the company’s trademarks as a part of our series’ name. Although we had been given permission to use these trademarks as part of Briggs & Stratton’s past sponsorship as the Title Sponsor of

LETTER FROM SERIES OWNERS REGARDING 206 CUP’S EXPANSION FEATURING A NEW DIVISIONAL/NATIONAL FORMAT FOR 2017

WE FOUND ANOTHER WAY TO GIVE THE RACERS BACK SOME MONEY! In 2015, we kept track of a manufactures points standings, ranking each chassis manufacture by their best two finishes at each event throughout all classes. We thought it was a fun thing to do, and some of the racers enjoyed trying to increase their chassis ranking by helping out other racers on like chassis. In 2016, we stopped tracking of these points, and to our surprise the racers were disappointed. We did not realize how many people were watching! So we are bringing back the Manufactures Championship for 2017, with a bonus to the racers. If a racer wins for the day on a chassis that is apart of

Welcome Glen Firing As The New Race Director for 2016

One of the most important parts of running a successful karting event is having a great staff. Although we are extremely pleased with all of our crew from the 2015 season, we felt we needed to step up our game even more. One of our main priorities for ourselves before 2016 was to add even more experience to our crew, specifically an experienced Race Director. Although we talked to as many people as we could, we always had one specific person in mind for the job, Glenn Firing. Both through personal experience and professional references; we knew he had the integrity and sense of fairness we wanted our race director to have. I am happy to say that he has
